Hundehütte
2025
Hundehütte is a new crafted retreat set deep within the Scottish Highlands — a place of refuge designed for quiet reflection and immersion within the wild landscape. Conceived as a response to the client’s wish for a sanctuary away from a busy urban life, the home provides a calm, enduring presence among the hills and heather.
Drawing from the region’s vernacular architecture, the design adopts a palette of natural stone and dark-stained timber, grounding the building within its rugged surroundings. These familiar materials are reinterpreted through a contemporary lens — precise detailing, generous glazing, and a refined modernist composition offer both contrast and connection to the Highland setting.
The plan is arranged as a series of gabled forms, echoing the language of traditional agricultural buildings while creating sheltered outdoor spaces and framed views of the dramatic landscape. Internally, spaces open to the changing light and distant ridgelines, balancing warmth and simplicity through natural textures and crafted finishes.
Hundehütte stands as both a retreat and a reflection — a home that belongs to its landscape, offering stillness, solitude, and a deep sense of place.
