Straddling the threshold between a mature pine forest and the shifting sand dunes of Scotland's north-west coast, Tràigh House is shaped by the experience of moving between two contrasting landscapes.

The approach is deliberately understated. Nestled amongst the trees, the house reveals little of the expansive views beyond, allowing the setting to unfold gradually. Only on entering does it open towards the dunes and the sea, reflecting the transition from the shelter and intimacy of the forest to the light and openness of the coast.

This sequence of compression and release informs the architecture throughout. Carefully framed views and a considered progression of spaces create a home that feels rooted in its setting while responding to the distinct qualities of each landscape.

A restrained palette of natural materials reflects the muted tones of sand, grasses and weathered timber, allowing the building to sit quietly within its surroundings. As the light and seasons change, the house changes with them, weathering gently into the coastal landscape.
