Loch Fyne House
2023
Set on the shores of Loch Fyne on Scotland's west coast, this contemporary home was designed as a retreat from city life and a place to reconnect with the surrounding landscape. Replacing a dilapidated building, the house reinterprets the familiar forms of traditional rural Scottish architecture through a calm and understated approach to modern living.
Locally sourced stone anchors the house to its setting, while timber cladding and zinc roofing bring a sense of lightness and reflect the colours and textures of the surrounding woodland and shoreline. Generous openings and carefully positioned glazing create a close connection between the interior spaces and the loch beyond, allowing natural light and changing views to shape effortless living within the home.
Balancing traditional forms with modernist principles of simplicity and connection to nature, the house provides a peaceful setting for family life and quiet retreat. Carefully framed views, a restrained material palette and a close relationship with the loch create a home shaped by the character and beauty of Scotland’s west coast.
