Casselbank Steet
2025
Casselbank Street is a new aparthotel development positioned within the vibrant urban fabric of Leith, one of Edinburgh’s most distinctive neighbourhoods. The project replaces a disused workshop and combines this with the sensitive conversion and refurbishment of an existing building to create a collection of thirteen contemporary serviced apartments.
The proposal responds directly to the character of Leith’s mixed residential and industrial streetscape. A palette of brick, profiled metal, and carefully detailed openings draws inspiration from the area’s historic warehouses and tenements, reinterpreting these familiar materials in a refined and modern architectural expression. The building’s scale and form are shaped to sit comfortably alongside neighbouring properties, reinforcing the rhythm of the street while contributing a new layer to its ongoing evolution.
Internally, the apartments are designed to offer a calm, flexible environment for short-and longer-term stays, with an emphasis on natural light, robust materials, and thoughtful planning. The overall scheme aims to regenerate an underused corner site and restore activity to a previously neglected frontage, supporting the continued renewal of this popular part of the city.
Casselbank Street represents a careful balance of contextual sensitivity and contemporary design, contributing positively to Leith’s rich architectural landscape.
